  7. What happened?
    If the HD still works, and the data just got deleted in a normal fashion (like deleted from the recycle bin) you can probably save it with some special software. When data is deleted normally it doesn’t just instantly reset back into a bunch of zeros; it gets marked as space that’s available to be overwritten (only when it gets overwritten is it truly gone). So there exists software that can read through the data on a computer that’s marked for deletion and gone to you, and salvage whatever hasn’t been written over yet.
    If the HD doesn’t work (as in just a dead, fried paperweight sitting on your desk) you can probably still save the data. Flash memory, jump drives, and RAM all need electricity flowing through them to retain their data, but hard drives are like CDs, the data is burned into it physically; therefore it’s a lot less likely for data to erased from them do to a direct physical failing. There are people who can retrieve data from broken hard drives, but they can be little tricky to find (check all the computer places in town, the big national chains, the hole in the wall hacker type operations, everybody; you might have to mail your HD to someone in another city if you can’t find someone in your home town) and probably a little expensive. I remember the Penny Arcade guys’ main HD that contained the copies of all their old comics got fried and they had to take it to one of those places; fortunately they got the data back.
    The only common occurrence I can think of that can completely erase a hard drive is if it got re-formatted; like if your computer crashed and you reinstalled your operating system. Yeah if that happened you’re fucked and you have my deepest sympathies. That happened to me once and it sucked; lost a bunch of progress on my projects.
    But check out the situation. Find out if the data is really gone or if it might be retrieved some how.

  8. Unfortunately he had a RAID stripe array (2×160Gb SATA2 Seagate HDs) with 2 NTFS partitions and when he noticed some crashes he tried to install a fresh copy of windows formatting the windows partition.
    But normal windows xp doesn’t support RAID systems, you have to enter some special drivers so it can manage RAID arrays (“Press F6 if you need to install additional SCSI adapters or other mass-storage devices.”) and he tried to install it without them so it messed up the HDs.
    By the time he tried to recover he’s data, a lot was already overwritten.
    And the computer started to act funny, one HD’s SMART says it’s at 40% of it’s fitness and the other one at 70%, one SATA port of the motherboard doesn’t work…
    As he said, he’s “so fucked up right now”…

    Punk ass bitches ain’t got MY HD. Had to kill it myself (buried the pieces in my backyard).

  12. Si usas Windows puedes usar Recover my files, a mi me permitio recuperar todas las fotos que perdi despues de que tuviera un problema con la particion y se me corrompieran todos los datos. (puedes probar al menos para salvar algunas de las animaciones/fotos/mp3s.

    My sympathies, man.
    I can’t count the times that has happened to me, but “blacksands” has something there.
    I got nearly everything (all the “real” files, and not some of the system files), with a program called “File Scavenger 3.0″, and bought it (to get the files).
    I really recommend you do this, before you sink in to the squalour of despair ;)

    I hope you find a way.

    If it’s only that the files are deleted/the harddrive emptyed, I think theres a way to get the files back (if you are using Windows it will say)… Dont know how right now, but I check it up….

  41. Ah man, FLAs are not a good thing to lose. I guess the SWFs are set in stone unless you can manage to recover them somehow.

    Una verdadera lástima, pero eres muy talentoso, ya cuando te calmes seguro y se te vendrán más ideas que nos dibujaran más sonrisas de las que nos has dado con tus trabajos.
    Si quieres liberar tensión, agarra ese DD, ponlo en una barda y consiguete una buena pistola de aire XD. Con el siguiente DD que compres, con unas buenos plumones le marcas buena vibra con un buen dibujo VInnie-Style con algo como “The New Beginning” “A new fucking HD”.
    Saludos y un sincero pésame a tu DD, estoy seguro que te sobrepondrás de esto.
